"everyone must change or face the consequences of remaining the same"
people who know me would know how i feel towards change, especially changes to interpersonal relationships. but here i openly announced that i have changed. my priorities in life had shifted. it used to be friends first, but now family comes first. i am no longer like a excited puppy, eager to please. i had passed that stage. i may have lost some degree of my freedom, my friends and the carefree lifestyle. but i dun see them as 'losses'. i'm more contented now than before. in fact i have the freedom to be happy. (is that what
the unbearable lightness of being is hitting at?)
but i would like to believe i'm still the same person though. just passing through my years, manifesting in a different forms. deep down, i'm still the same person who still likes mint ice-cream and thinks that every dawn is magnificently unique from the rest.
i know you won't understand me now. but i hope one day.. you will see what i see..

so google is finally making concrete actions to pull out of china search engine market. oh boy, why am i glad that i'm not in china now. firstly china banned youtube, then blogspot/livejournal/wordpress and then facebook. now google wants out. seriously, china is really becoming an INTRANET! i won't know what would be the point of going online anymore! (okay perhaps there are still wiki and msn. well, at least for now..)
but no google means no:
(1) google search (can't say 'google it' anymore!)
(2) gmail
(3) gmail's functions, especially gchat (so sad for those whose offices can't access msn!)
there seems to be a lot of news on censorship these days. can excessive censorship by the government really be successful? in the case of china, the censorship people are really efficient to ban websites. but is blocking information from citizens the best way to uphold order and peace in the country? perhaps one can argue that the easiest way to maintain control over such a big country is to withhold what the state deems as 'harmful' or negative information from the people. such a clumsy attempt can be liken to a parent covering the child's eyes to 'protect' him from seeing the 'ugly' truth. but how long can the state keep up with the censorship? it is easy (and anonymous) for one to create a website. but it takes more effort to track down the website and take it down. with china's citizens becoming increasingly sophisticated and educated, it is quite impossible (and even foolish) to think that they can hide everything from the people.
hmm, it will be interesting to see how the situation progress from here..
